When it's hard to talk

Even when you care, sometimes you stop hearing each other

Sometimes the same argument comes back again and again. Sometimes routine, work and children create a quiet distance. And sometimes you simply feel you can no longer hear each other.

  • The same arguments again and again

  • Distance and routine

  • The period after a new baby

  • A crisis of trust

  • Uncertainty about the future together

  • Co-parenting and disagreements about the children

Couples therapy is a safe, quiet space where each of you can say what matters to you, and be heard. No judges and no taking sides.

The approach

What is EFT?

EFT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) is a structured approach to couples therapy developed in the 1980s by Dr. Sue Johnson and Dr. Leslie Greenberg, and grounded in attachment theory.

According to this approach, behind most arguments and distance lies a basic need for closeness, security and the feeling that your partner is available and responsive. When that need is not met, the couple gets caught in a recurring cycle, for example one partner pursues and the other withdraws, and both are left alone with the pain.

Therapy moves through three stages: identifying and de-escalating the negative cycle, creating new patterns of interaction in which each partner can express their feelings and needs and respond to the other, and consolidating the renewed bond in everyday life. EFT is one of the most researched approaches in couples therapy.

We set the pace together, with respect for each of you and for your shared story.
